WHAT: The Ecology Center is a forty-year-old, grassroots, environmental
service organization. The Ecology Center focuses on what local
residents can do, rather than on the overwhelming problems we face. The
Ecology Center facilitates the development of new efforts, further
develops existing successful endeavors, and institutionalizes mature
programs. The Ecology Center provides information, products, and direct services through our Berkeley's Residential Curbside Recycling Program, three Berkeley Farmers' Markets, Farm Fresh Choice food justice program, Terrain Magazine, Ecology Center Store and Information Services, our EcoHouse demonstration site, and by providing administrative support to fiscally-sponsored
projects.

DUTIES: The Ecology Center Deputy Director is responsible for developing and
maintaining highly efficient administrative, personnel, facilities,
and financial infrastructure that enables effective organizational
management. The Deputy Director is part of the Senior Management Team
and serves as the organization’s senior manager in the absence of the
Executive Director. The Deputy Director supervises the financial and
administrative staff located at the recycling facility, and works
with the Program Director on administrative responsibilities at the
San Pablo Avenue facility. The Deputy Director works closely with the
Personnel and Finance Committees of the Board and under the general
oversight of the Executive Director.

lead our organization’s fund development efforts. The Ecology Center is a 40-year–old environmental service organization that has helped
shape the environmental movement by providing successful, community-driven, on-the-ground demonstration programs for a new urban future.
As the mainstream becomes increasingly ready, the Ecology Center’s efforts and successes have become more visible and in demand. We have

organization; 2) establish effective working relationships with the
organization's board, policy committee, staff, and other constituencies;
foster and sustain a culture of cooperation, trust, and open communication;
develop strong working relationships with key external partners and
influencers including policy and land-use organizations, housing
organizations, environmental organizations, builders, elected officials,
regional and neighborhood groups, city, county, state and regional agencies,
foundations and others important to achieving Greenbelt Alliance's goals; 3) understand
the organization's vision for the Bay Area expressed in the Strategic Plan and
together with staff, continue the development of the implementation plan; 4) with
the Director of Development, Chair of the Development Committee,
and other key members of Greenbelt Alliance, build the capacity and
effectiveness of the development function; be a driving force for
establishing personal relationships with current and potential private and
philanthropic donors; proactively raise money to support Greenbelt Alliance
and its campaigns.
